The Times Series is offering bursaries to help local people study newspaper journalism at Greenhill College in Harrow.

All students offered places on the year-long course, which is accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists, who live in Harrow and Brent, or who have strong links to either borough, will be eligible to apply for a bursary.

Those chosen will have the course fees of £400 and exam fees, £200, paid. They will be responsible for other course expenses.

Our editorial team will offer advice and support, and practical help where appropriate. The bursary students will be invited to spend time in our newsroom, working alongside our reporters, photographers and other journalists.

Each applicant for a place on the course will be sent an application form for a bursary. There will be no means test, but applicants must convince us of their commitment to, and aptitude for, a career in newspaper journalism.

The course covers journalism, media law, public administration and shorthand, and includes visits and guest speakers. Students completing it successfully will be ready for jobs on local and regional newspapers, where their training will continue until they sit the final National Certificate exams.
