AN 85-year-old woman with a broken hip was not taken to hospital for two days, according to allegations now being investigated.

The allegations surround Stonehaven Residential Home, Carter Street, Sandown, and came to light following the death of resident Peggy Holbrook.

She was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital earlier this month, with a broken left hip, and died several days later of pneumonia, following an operation, an inquest opening heard last Friday.

The Isle of Wight Coroner’s Court heard claims Mrs Holbrook broke her hip after falling out of a wheelchair. According to the allegations, she was not taken to St Mary’s Hospital for 50 hours.

A joint probe will now be carried out by police, Isle of Wight Council, Isle of Wight NHS and the Care Quality Commission.

The care home declined to comment.
