Carnival spirit brings out the crowds

THESE youngsters put the car in carnival in Newport on Saturday night.

Newport’s eye-catching carnival queen float, A Touch of Vintage, was based on a 1948 Ford Mercury.

The car, made from wood, polystyrene and filler, was created by builder Kevin Heal, of Shide, to fit in with the queens’ rock 'n’ roll theme.

Carnival organiser June Winchcombe said: "The weather was great, the crowds big and the carnival spirit, amazing. It was a brilliant, colourful parade."
