POLICE on the Isle of Wight are investigating after paint was thrown on around a dozen cars in Ventnor last night (Wednesday).

Officers were called to Trinity Road at 7.00am this morning (Thursday) after residents discovered the damage, believed to have been caused during the night.

Jim Isted, of Jurassic Jim's fossil shop in Shanklin, lives on Trinity Road and his family's cars were among those damaged.

He said: "It isn't just a dab of paint, it goes across the bonnet, down the side and the back.

"I have been cleaning my daughter's car this morning. It's relatively new, she's been saving for three years to get herself a decent car and she's very upset.

"I've been cleaning with white spirit and there's no paint on the car anymore but you can see where it was.

"We're all gutted, it seems to be destruction for the sake of destruction."

Anyone who has information or witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area can contact Isle of Wight Police on 101. Mini-com users can contact 01962 875000 and information can be given anonymously by phoning Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
