A SAILOR injured, during a race off the Isle of Wight, has thanked Cowes RNLI for coming to the rescue — by making a big donation.
The injured man had been on one of the 29 40ft yachts taking part in the annual Cowes-based UK Firefighters Sailing Challenge which took place on Wednesday, last week.
Cowes lifeboat was called to help after the sailor suffered an injury close to Osborne Bay.
The yachtsman suffered back and shoulder injuries and received treatment by lifeboat crew before he was taken to Fishbourne, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to St Mary's Hospital.
The lifeboat crew was invited to the challenge's final awards presentation evening at Cowes yacht Haven where they were presented with a 'thank-you' cheque for £1,500 which will be passed on to the charity's Poole headquarters.
