A NEW scheme to find out what people really think about NHS services is to be trialled on the I.

Patients will be given a token as they leave the Isle of Wight hospital and asked to drop it into one of two boxes — one stating they would recommend Island NHS services to their friends and family and one stating they wouldn’t recommend them.

It is hoped the simple system will encourage more patients to give feedback on their care. Comment cards will be available for those who wish to give further details.

The boxes will be placed at the Beacon Centre at first, with a view to placing more throughout the hospital and at community clinics.

Placing a disk in the yes or no box would depend on what part of the hospital you go to. There are some really good departments and some total disasters like the Medical Assessment Unit where I wouldn't recommend anybody to go !!

This scheme will say nothing about the actual quality of services provided. It's just a customer service exercise. What is needed is a way to measure how well services meet and follow national evidence based best practice, alongside how 'nice and friendly' staff are.
