The world is waking up to the perils of plastics in our oceans...and so is the Isle of Wight.

Last week Surfers Against Sewage launched a campaign to gain the IW 'Plastic-Free Island' status and groups such as Plastic Aware are doing good work to reduce our consumption.

Now the County Press and IW Radio are teaming up to give a platform for the news that needs to be told about what IW people are doing to protect our beautiful Island.

Over the coming weeks and months, we will be highlighting what individuals, organisations and businesses are doing to clean up, reduce plastic usage and find alternatives.

The campaign needs to get itself noticed, so the County Press and IW Radio are launching a logo competition for Island primary school-age pupils.

Pupils need to send in their logo design on a sheet of A4 paper. The winning design will be chosen by a team of judges and will be used as the basis of a logo which will identify coverage in the paper, on the radio and on both organisations' websites.

A prize will be awarded to the winner.
