KNITTERS on the Isle of Wight are being asked to wield their needles to whip up one million tiny woolly hats for a campaign to help older people stay warm this winter.
Age UK is joining forces with food and drink company Innocent for The Big Knit, to raise money and awareness for the charity’s Spread the Warmth campaign.
The campaign funds projects to ensure older people have nutritious meals, warm homes and access to help and information.
To mark the tenth anniversary of the partnership, Innocent hopes to put one million woollies on its smoothie bottles to be sold in around the UK November, with 25p per bottle being donated to the campaign.
The Big Knit runs until September 27 and knitters can get a free hat pattern by calling Age UK IW on 01983 525282.
The little hats can be sent to The Big Knit, Innocent Ltd, 342 Ladbroke Grove, London, W10 5BU and those who do not fancy knitting can donate wool and needles to Age UK Isle of Wight at 14 Pyle Street, Newport, or make a £3 donation by texting 'knit' to 70004.
