A TURKISH organisation has appealed for calm in the wake of the fatal stabbing of two British football supporters.

A leaflet being circulated around Enfield from the Refugee Workers' Cultural Association calls for an end to racist and fascist attacks.

Leeds United fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight were stabbed to death prior to the club's match against Galatasaray in Istanbul three weeks ago.

The leaflet condemns the murder and blames the Turkish state for the stabbing.

It reads: 'This incident has meant that the British and Turkish fascists are developing their fascism and racism between the two nations.

'The refugees who have taken refuge in Britain and other countries of Europe are workers and labourers who have had to leave their own country because of fascist oppression directed at them by the Turkish state.'

The group, based in Stoke Newington, alleges that British thugs are using the killings as an excuse to carry out revenge attacks on Turkish workplaces and shops around the country.

But they urge both the British and Turkish communities to rise above such violence.

The leaflet adds: 'We are calling on all refugees, British workers and people, anti-fascists and anti-racists to be sensitive about this case.'
