Stortford 94 ao

Stevenage 95-2

Stevenage won by eight wickets

(Home Counties East League premier division)

BISHOP'S STORTFORD'S unbeaten start to the season came to an end on Saturday as they were blown away by Stevenage at Cricketfield Lane.

After a resounding eight-wicket win over Letchworth the previous week, Stortford went into Saturday's contest with confidence but never got going and finished on the wrong end of a similar scoreline.

The home side batted first and collapsed to an all-out total of 94.

Several players made double figures but none was able to make a significant score which might have given Stortford an anchor.

New Aussie Darren Wittingham scored 70 and took three wickets against Letchworth but he could not make any sort of impact this time with either bat or ball against Stevenage.

The visitors moved steadily towards their target and reached it comfortably at 95-2 to win by a convincing eight wickets margin.

Stortford skipper Ben Debenham said: 'We didn't play well enough although Stevenage are a very strong side and they made life difficult for us.

'They had a superb overseas spinner from Pakistan and all of our batsmen found it very difficult to cope with his bowling.

'It's disappointing to lose a game after a good start to the season but we will try to put the game out of our minds and get straight back to winning ways.'

Stortford are back in Home Counties East League premier division action at Cricketfield Road on Saturday as they entertain Langleybury.
