THOUSANDS of people descended on Ryde seafront to celebrate the second National Armed Forces Day.
The event at Ryde was one of more than 350 across the country recognising those who have served, or are currently serving in the British armed forces either on land or at sea.
Around 200 ex-servicemen gathered for a parade along North Walk on Ryde seafront, led by a group of Chelsea pensioners. This was followed by a procession by young cadets, celebrating 150 years of the cadets organisation.
Some of the day's attractions included the arrival of a Territorial Army Mexi-float in the sea, a sea rescue display by Ryde Inshore Lifeboat, a 100ft inflatable army assault course, military vehicles, Proms in the Park, followed by a firework display in the evening.
