Events including the birth of the National Lottery, advances in technology and the birth of the Millennium Dome are captured in the tapestry embroidered by 12 Barnes residents.
The millennium tapestry, which took the workers over a year to create, is being displayed alongside an exhibition about a set of tapestries from Mortlake.
Only a few of the eight original tapestries, dating back to the 17th century, remain intact and one is housed at Hampton Court Palace.
Members of the embroidering team were at the library last week to pass their traditional skills on to some young proteges during a special workshop.
