The borough's sports coaches are hunting for budding young weight-lifters to represent Sutton at the London Heathrow Games.

Sutton Council's Recrea-tion Section is employing a fully-qualified coach to train young athletes aged between 13 and 19 to take part in Europe's largest youth sporting event in July. Open to athletes of either sex, competitors will use Olympic lifts, namely the the snatch and the clean and jerk. For details contact the Recreation Section on 0181 770 4667.

Cheam Hockey Club's Hunters finished their Surrey Open League campaign in style on Saturday, taking home a 4-3 victory from the London Civil Service.

Despite earning their ninth league win, secured with a late strike from open play, Cheam failed to clinch promotion but still expect to mount a serious challenge next season.

Triple success

Wallington Ladies Hockey Club's three sides in the Surrey Ladies Hockey Association League all won on Saturday.

Wallington's 1st team led the way, dominating Spencer to win 4-2, the 2nds beat Croydon MOs 2-1 and the 2Bs completed a clean sweep for the club with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Purley.

FOOTBALL: A crucial 2-2 draw with Croydon on Saturday earned Sutton Schools Borough Under 11s a final chance to share the Surrey Schools League title.

After coming close to winning at the weekend Sutton's young footballing stars must beat Kingston this Saturday in their final match to draw level with Croydon and share the championship.

England call

Sutton's Emma Wildig is celebrating after her call-up to the All England Netball squad.

A pupil at Banstead's Greenacre School, the 16-year-old goalie from Frampton Close was picked last week after a series of fantastic performances for unbeaten Surrey this season.

Wales tour

Glyn ADT school's rugby stars enjoyed success on a tour of Wales. The Epsom school's Year 7 team mirrored England's Five Nations victory over the Welsh two weeks ago by beating Builth Wells High School 19-5.

Glyn are hoping for a return fixture over Easter.
