A DRAMATIC dance routine inspired by a tragic love story did the Isle of Wight proud as Christ the King College booked a place in the Southern Open Final of Rock Challenge last night (Monday).

The Carisbrooke-based college excelled with their entry, A Casualty of Love, to win their heat in the anti-drug and alcohol dance contest, at a packed Portsmouth Guildhall.

The young performers scooped a number of awards, which included the Performers’ Choice accolade, as chosen by the other performing schools.

The win means the college has qualified to take part in the Southern Open Final, again in Portsmouth, on Thursday, April 27.

The mayor of Havant, Cllr Faith Ponsonby, said: "Christ the King College were a superbly entertaining group. They had us on the edge of our seats."

Christ the King headteacher, Pat Goodhead, said she was absolutely thrilled with the result.

Ryde School came a creditable fourth with their entry, To Save a Life is to Save All of Humanity, which focused on a family’s struggle for survival during the civil war in Syria.
