A ROTARY club is offering a Christmas tree collection service to help raise money for good causes.

Vectis Sunrise Rotary Club will collect trees, in return for donations. The trees will be shredded and the chippings sold to raise further cash for its community work.

The service is available to homes and businesses in Newport, on Saturday and Sunday, next week, and has the support of the Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads.

A spokesman said: "In most parts of the Island skips are being provided for used Christmas trees but in Newport residents are required to get them to the tip under their own steam.

"That can be difficult if you have no transport, are up to your neck in getting the kids back to school or just don’t have the time to load up and queue at the tip to dispose of that discarded tree and of course the thought of all those pine needles on the upholstery."

Collections will be made in the PO30 1, PO30 5 and PO30 9 areas on Saturday, January 11, and in the PO30 2 and PO30 3 areas on Sunday, January 12.

You can book a collection by calling 07502 942 909.

Lee, in Sir Thomas More's Utopia (1516) an imaginary island representing the perfect society.
I am very fond of the Island, have been for 40+ years, sadly Utopia it is not.
I admire your pride in the environment and our feathered wildlife.
