Holy Cross Church, Seaview. Picture by Laura Holme.
CONTROVERSIAL plans to demolish a church and build a house on the site were refused last night (Tuesday).
The Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee turned down an application by the Portsmouth Diocese to tear down Holy Cross Church in Seaview and build a detached house.
The committee narrowly voted against an officer recommendation to approve the plans, which included a boat store.
The diocese will be asked to provide more information about community use at the church with any fresh application.
