Clean up makes a difference

FRESHWATER is now that little bit cleaner, thanks to the efforts of volunteers from the West Wight Conservation Group.

As part of Community Service Volunteers’ Make a Difference Day, they carried out a litter sweep through Moa Place car park and the surrounding areas, filling eight bin bags with rubbish.

Group member Peter Gibson said he was surprised to pick up so many glass bottles, particularly as there was a recycling point in the car park.

"I do a litter sweep in Freshwater twice a year, and I started because I got so sick of seeing all the rubbish around. I think more people should volunteer, especially the youngsters," he said.

Parish councillors Gill Kennett and George Cameron helped out, as did environment and neighbourhoods officer Bob Nelson.
