SCHOOLCHILDREN have been helping to make sure Brighstone remains a clean and tidy village.

Children from Years 2, 3 and 4 at Brighstone Primary School spent an afternoon with Bob Nelson, environment and neighbourhood officer, playing their part in keeping the village litter free.

The children also learnt about the impact on the environment of dropping litter.

The venture was part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign to help to keep the community tidy and suggested by the Eco Schools Council, as part of their work towards achieving green flag status.

Headteacher, Amanda Johnston, said: "Brighstone really is a school at the heart of the community. The pupils are very keen to ensure they play their part in keeping the community tidy and contribute towards the parish eco strategy.

"We are extremely close to achieving Green Flag status and this is down to the hard work of the pupils and support of parents and the community."
