A RACING dinghy almost hit by a car ferry close to Cowes should have altered course earlier, according to a harbourmaster’s report.
The report, by Cowes harbourmaster Capt Stuart McIntosh, came after the incident in the harbour on June 13 involving an X-class boat and a Red Funnel ferry.
The moment was captured by photographer Tony Toller, of boatphotos.co.uk.
The ferry had right of way, said the report, which added: "It would have been prudent for the X boat to have altered course in good time."
Instead the ferry was forced to slow down.
"The skipper of the X boat was advised to familiarise himself with collision regulations," said Capt McIntosh.
