Collision at Ryde

EMERGENCY crews have today (Sunday) been called to a car crash at Ryde, on the Isle of Wight.

One person was reported to be trapped following the collision, which happened at Beaper Shute, Brading Road, shortly before 5pm, according to a spokesman for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Police and paramedics were also called to the scene, near the Tesco store.

*17.58 A 17-year-old male has been cut free from the car, which ended up on its side following the crash. He has been transferred into a waiting ambulance.

The crash involved only one car, not two as originally reported, according to the fire and rescue service spokesman.

*19.22 A spokeswoman for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust said the teenager had been treated for cuts and bruises at the Emergency Department, at St Mary's Hospital, and would not be admitted overnight.
