The world of science fiction entered the judicial system this week, during an appearance by divorced antiques dealer David Binder.
Binder, 47, of Holloway Road, Holloway, was appearing at Hendon Magistrates Court on Monday charged with harassing Dr Edwin Scher during a service at Norrice Lea Synagogue in Hampstead Garden Suburb in March this year. When asked to confirm his name to the court, Binder responded: "Yes, Lord of the Jedi."
After taking legal advice, magistrate Richard Bohrer ordered that Binder's solicitor Geoffrey Scrivner would not be able to represent him at court.
Mr Scrivner told the court: "We have represented people throughout the judicial system in Crown Courts including murder cases, also at the Royal Courts of Justice." His appeal for an adjournment was rejected.
After defending himself Binder's case was committed to Harrow Crown Court on July 11.
An order not to go near Dr Scher or the Hampstead Garden Suburb synagogue was upheld.
Father of six Binder, who owns antique shops in Paddington and Holloway, moved into his Holloway address after being discharged from a mental institution.
