Comic to stand as MP

Glen Maney.

A STAND-up comic and former Islander, turned national secretary of the National Liberal Party, is to stand at the next general election.

Glen Maney, pictured, who lived in Shanklin and Wroxall from 1999 until 2007 and is planning to return, announced he plans to fight for one of the Island’s two seats at the next election, due to take place in 2015.

Mr Maney, 48, lives in Soctland and was recently appointed as national secretary of the National Liberal Party. The former LibDem said he joined the party after becoming disillusioned with Nick Clegg.

Mr Maney, who runs The Limelight Film Company, said the Island had been hit, like other areas, by the recession and professional politicians had failed the country.
