THE Isle of Wight staged its very own version of the hit TV show, DIY SOS at the weekend by giving a much-needed make over to the well-used community building run by Aspire Ryde.
Organisations and individuals rolled up their sleeves and picked up their paintbrushes to support Aspire which provides facilities and services to develop the community as well as preserve the much loved church building, which houses Aspire, in Dover Street.
Heath Monaghan from Aspire Ryde appealed for people to come and get involved and spruce the place up after three very busy years which have seen thousands of people coming through the doors each week.
The visits are for help, support, care and access to a whole programme of events and classes.
Heath said: "We have been very pleased with the response from the public. Yet again, they show their support and have come and painted the entire lower ground floor and prepared a new social enterprise and business support space ready for heating and carpets to be installed."
The appeal also included an option to donate an hour or two of people's salaries as an alternative to coming along in person, raising £50 to go towards refurbishment costs.
The project is still on the hunt for an electrician and a roofing company to help with a small flat roof. The project has been a huge success as a direct result of the community supporting the works with special thanks to Dazzle Cleaning who stepped in to clean all the gutters.
Heath added: "We were able to clean and spruce up the entire lower ground floor and the outside of the building. Thank you so much. We could not have done this without you. You have made such a difference. We couldn't do this without you."
