Community groups back Fight for the Wight over fears for the vulnerable

Monday, April 11, 2016 - 9:00

FURTHER funding cuts to services for elderly and vulnerable people would leave them with nowhere else to turn, charities have warned.
Community Action Isle of Wight, a support body for the Island’s voluntary sector, together with Age UK Isle of Wight, Carers IW, the Footprint Trust and My Time, which provides community mental health services, are among the latest organisations to back the Fight for the Wight campaign.
They signed up this week, urging all Islanders to follow suit.
Funding cuts to public services, such as services for carers, elderly and disabled people and those with mental health problems, have already driven people to seek help from charities and community groups supported by the Island’s army of volunteers.
Those organisations could buckle under the pressure if the situation worsens.
Sign the petition, calling for more government funding for the Island’s vital public services, at www.fightforthewight.co.uk.
