I WAS disgusted to read in about Lavender Primary School headmistress Jane Dookheran who, it is reported, has scrapped Christmas parties at the school and generally dampened down the traditional activities of the festive season.

I am a former Lavender pupil, and I remember Christmas as being the best time of the school year.

We always had a big tree, decorations were made in class and put up, there were concerts and the highlight was the end of term party.

Christmas should be an exciting and wonderful time for children, and while I agree that it is important to learn other faiths, it is also essential that we preserve our own traditions and are encouraged to celebrate them in the time-honoured fashion.
