NEW shops and maisonettes could be built on a former Isle of Wight Council car park in East Cowes.
Plans to redevelop the Well Road car park with a three-storey building of four retail units and nine maisonettes are being recommended for approval.
However, East Cowes Town Council has opposed the scheme on the basis it is over-development and would be out of character and harm the setting of the conservation area.
The Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee will consider the proposals next Tuesday.

Provided the developers undertake to deploy a large quantity of rubbish around the site, and perhaps leave some old motorbikes and parts of motorbikes lying around, and employ surly youths to spit on the ground, and release a pack of diarrheal canines in the area, i can see no issue with the development being out of keeping with its surroundings.

Surely it's a good thing for East Cowes! Might get rid of some of the delapadated old run down looking shops!
