FORMER Island conman Graham Briggs has resurfaced in the UK after he was released from a French jail.

Briggs, who worked as an estate agent on the Island, was jailed for 14 months in 1995 for stealing £55,000 from a Japanese catering company. He was previously involved in the controversial Ventnor Spring and Mineral Company.

He was jailed again the following year for obtaining property by deception, perverting the course of justice and forgery.

In June, 2009, he was extradited to France over claims he had been involved in scams against ex-pats.

He admitted fraud, falsifying papers and theft of £1.72 million.

He was sentenced to two years in jail but has been released because of overcrowding in French jails and has moved back to the UK.

Briggs, who was warned he could be recalled to jail if the overcrowding situtation eased, is believed to be living in Kent.
