BUSINESSMAN Ray Bloomfield will fill the vacant seat on Shanklin Town Council following yesterday’s (Thursday) by-election.
Conservative Party member, Cllr Bloomfield, 53, of Vaughan’s Way, Shanklin, received 417 votes.
Independent former BNP member, Geoff Clynch, 55, of Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin, received 95 votes, and Lib Dem candidate Bob Blezzard, 61, of Perowne Way, Sandown, 74 votes.
Cllr Bloomfield said: "I’m very pleased with the win and by how many Shanklin people came out to vote.
"It was a shame there had to be an election in the first place, especially as we will have to go through it all again next year. Calling it on was a total waste of public money.
"I’m a businessman with a good work ethic and I aim to work hard for the town council and the people of Shanklin."
