Conservative election victory

BUSINESSMAN Ray Bloomfield will fill the vacant seat on Shanklin Town Council following yesterday’s (Thursday) by-election.

Conservative Party member, Cllr Bloomfield, 53, of Vaughan’s Way, Shanklin, received 417 votes.

Independent former BNP member, Geoff Clynch, 55, of Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin, received 95 votes, and Lib Dem candidate Bob Blezzard, 61, of Perowne Way, Sandown, 74 votes.

Cllr Bloomfield said: "I’m very pleased with the win and by how many Shanklin people came out to vote.

"It was a shame there had to be an election in the first place, especially as we will have to go through it all again next year. Calling it on was a total waste of public money.

"I’m a businessman with a good work ethic and I aim to work hard for the town council and the people of Shanklin."

Mr Bloomfield said that its a shame that there had to be an election. The arrogance of the man! He presumably thinks that the very fact that he was proposed ought to have been sufficient for him to be put on to the council? Typical tory. No one else is entitled to a point of view except himself. And the voters of Shanklin would obviously elect a monkey if it was wearing a blue rosette! It is time that the socialists raised their voices!

How about the clear message that right wing extremists are not welcome whether they hide as independents or not

Winston Churchill said just after the war that the new Fascists will be the anti-Fascists, how true his words, and now you the british people keep voting them into power, is it a death wish to live under a dictatorship

whilst im not totall au-fait with the exact population of shanklin, i find it quite remarkable that mr bloomfield is pleased about how many people voted for him (guessing about 3 or 4 percent of the population). if u take out of the equation his family and friends and conservative club buddies he probably polled a similar amount of votes to that of an ex bnp member. way to go cllr bloomfield, go get em !!
