COWES chip shop Corries Cabin has unveiled this year's battered Christmas treat.

Following the success of festive foods from previous years, which have included battered sprouts, battered pigs in blankets and battered turkey and stuffing rolls, manager Derrel Mooney has spent the year thinking of another item to add to the festive fare.

Derrel said: "Last year, the sprouts were so popular it almost caught us out. I’ve been trying all sorts of things for the last couple of months and in the end, decided to get a little bit of help from Facebook.

"Thanks to Corries fan Amy Overton, we have settled on battered herby sausage meat stuffing balls. We are even adding a festive gravy to the menu for December."

Owner Richard Quigley added: "It is really meant as a bit of fun, but the sprouts have been a real winner every year. So much so, that people stop me in the street in November to ask what this year’s special is.

"We had some great suggestions via Facebook, so hopefully Derrel will have plenty of ideas for years to come."

For thinking up the winning treat, Amy will be enjoying them on the house.
