THIS week the News Shopper is appealing to readers for help in identifying these yobs caught on camera daubing graffiti on local buses.

Graffiti damage costs London Central Buses £7,000 a week and passenger numbers are falling as people fear being robbed or assaulted.

London Central, which operates out of Bexleyheath bus garage in Erith Road, Barnehurst, is now working with police to catch youngsters who graffiti, smash and even urinate on bus seats and fittings and make them unusable.

The company is now fitting hidden CCTV cameras in its buses to try and catch the culprits.

On the 229 route alone, this has resulted in a 37 per cent drop in incidents over the past two months.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Conroy, from the crime squad at Bexleyheath, is leading the hunt for the guilty youngsters and told the News Shopper many of them are easily identified by their school.

Most have never been in trouble before and own up to what they have been doing when faced with the CCTV evidence.

Robberies on buses mainly youngsters stealing mobile phones from other young people have dropped from 1.7 per day to 1.2 since the cameras were introduced.

Parents and youngsters are also receiving the bills for the damage from the bus company, who will take the family to court if they refuse to pay.

We are asking you to do your bit to help, by calling 01322 304146 if you think to recognise any of the youngsters the these pictures.
