Council tax rise on the cards

ISLE of Wight residents could see a 2.5 per cent increase in next year’s council tax bill according to a council report.

The figure was revealed in a budget review report to be discussed by councillors next week.

Council leader, Cllr David Pugh, told the County Press the rise — which will not be decided until next February — came off the back of a council tax freeze, funded by the government for the past two years

Cllr Pugh told the Isle of Wight County Press: "By increasing council tax by 2.5 per cent next year, we will be keeping council tax income at the current level.

"Unless we identify further savings or our grant allocation is different, this is the figure we are working on."

The final figure will not be decided on until February next year.

'incompetants' who cannot spell! Unmarrieds with children complaining about life! Islanders always moaning about paying their way - but are never in the forefront of those offering to put themselves forward in the cause of civic duty.

The council is run by incompetants who can't add up and rely on people having short memories...only a month ago they 'found' a couple of million extra to build more beach huts and organise an asparagus festival. I don't mind paying more tax...it is a massive problem in this country that we expect everything for very little...but we should get what we pay for..this council have cut services and sold assets and still can't make the books balance.

Yeah why not put it up, we can all afford it can't we? Me and my partner and our little boy can just about afford to live at the moment, the council tax at the moment is ridiculous, I never see any police in my area since I have lived here. If it goes up too much then we will have no choice but to move back with my partners parents. Thanks alot

This is probably to help pay for the extensive repair that is now needed to our melting roads fiasco. Where did the £2M underspend go? bonuses for the baffons who decided to apply a road surface technique which failed in portsmouth in the sameway and in any case only lasts 18months £800 grant well spent, I think squandered is the correct word.

Typical, why not start charging those on benefits who currently pay nothing. By doing this those of us who do pay wont have to cough up any more!

Typical TORIE/ PUGH figures do NOT add up. Two million plus under spend last year and who knows what they have saved this year, with services reduced and jobs going. ITS easy for HIM to say put the rates up, BUT where are WE the rate payer going to get IT FROM? OR is this just another ply to REDUCING services YET again. SOON there will only be PUGH and his friends left or is that HIs plan.
