Hendon 2 Uxbridge 1 (aet)

Middlesex Senior Cup

A full-blooded Middlesex Senior Cup clash ended in dramatic fashion with both teams down to ten men after Hendon defender Curtis Warmington and Uxbridge's Wayne Noad both received red cards late in the game.

Hendon's top scorer Paul Whitmarsh, also substitute as the youngsters were given a chance, was their hero, scoring both goals, including the extra-time winner.

After both sides had failed to create a worthwhile chance, Whitmarsh, replacing Simon Clarke after 76 minutes, turned the game around. In the 83rd minute, Matt Maran teased his way past two opponents before delivering a perfect cross and Whitmarsh, timing his run perfectly, buried a header in the roof of the net.

In stoppage time, Uxbridge equalised through Darren Smith following a corner.

The game flared up in the 96th minute when Warmington was viciously kicked by Phil Granville and retaliated in similar manner. Granville then threw a punch, but referee Mr M Robinson showed him only a yellow card, and dismissed Warmington.

Whitmarsh hit the winner after his first attempt had been blocked. But there was more drama when Noad attacked John-Simon White and got his marching orders.
