Councillor gets suspended sentence for spitting at PC

A RYDE councillor who spat in a police officer’s face has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Adrian Whittaker, 37, of Lower Highland Road, Ryde, pleaded guilty to assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty when he appeared before magistrates yesterday (Thursday).

The court heard how the Isle of Wight councillor for Ryde South, said: "Ha ha, I have Aids," as he spat at the police officer.

He was jailed for three months, suspended for two years, ordered to pay £300 compensation and £300 costs.
