A FREE course for carers on the Isle of Wight is to be held later this month.

The course, at Tower House surgery, Rink Road, Ryde starts on Tuesday, July 24 and runs over six weeks.

Six weekly half-day sessions will be led by two trained tutors, who themselves have experience of being a carer.

The aim is to help carers develop their existing skills to help them cope with their caring situation, develop confidence to take more control over their own lives and be more realistic about the impact of their caring on themselves and their family, said a spokesman.

The Caring with Confidence programme has been developed by the Expert Patients Programme Community Interest Company.

Contract manager Rachel Hatcher, said: "One of the most frequent comments we hear from participants on the course is how much they have benefited from being in a group with others in a similar situation to themselves."
