Royal Mail has criticised its Twickenham workers who stated they were not informed of a proposed relocation.

The workers' claim was made in another local newspaper but a Royal Mail spokesman said it was untrue.

A planning application has been made to build a £35 million sorting office in Feltham.

The Royal Mail spokesman said workers had been kept "as informed as possible".

He said: "Staff have known for many months that a move to a new state-of-the-art sorting centre would be happening as soon as a suitable site could be secured.

"There have been regular meeting with the union and we have kept everyone as informed as we could, given some commercial sensitivity, during the meeting process and the fact that planning permission has not yet been granted, nor is it likely to be for several months."

The spokesman said if the Feltham Marshalling Yards site was approved the sorting office would employ 500 people and be one of the country's largest.
