Crash in Ventnor

A WOMAN has died following a crash yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

Isle of Wight emergency services were called following the single-vehicle incident near the Royal Hotel, Belgrave Road, Ventnor, at around 4pm.

*A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police confirmed this morning (Friday) that the female driver had died.

He added that the car had mounted the kerb near the junction of Park Road and Belgrave Road and came to a stop near a roadside flower display. The woman was prononuced dead.

He said: "The Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit would like to thank members of the public who tried to save the woman's life at the scene."

Police are in the process of identifying the driver and informing next of kin.

No other vehicles were involved and no criminal offences were identified.
