THE hugely popular Cowes to Newport cycle track is to be closed for three months from April so that drainage connections can be made to the new Vestas R&D development at Stag Lane.
The news, which will come as a shock to the dozens of green commuters who use the track, only emerged late this week.
Peter Hayward, the council's head of highways, said suitable alternative cycle routes would be signed and publicised ahead of the closure. It would be opened for the two week period around the Isle of Wight Festival.
