Following receipt of the proposals for parking controls in New Malden, I cannot believe that the council is really considering turning Park View into a pay and display car park.

The park is a place for recreation, an open space for all to enjoy. Surely the council's intention is not to deter people from visiting the park.

Do the bureaucratic meddlers at the council really believe that residents in Park View - and I am one - want a hideous pay and display machine outside their homes?

Not only would it be an eyesore, but also it would encourage vandalism and provide yet another surface for the graffiti "artists" to deface.

A minor consideration perhaps, but does the council expect friends and family of residents to pay a parking fee for visiting us?

Be serious, the park is a place for all to enjoy, we are not living in the inner cities where parking is at a premium, and I for one do not want to see our road turned into a car park.
