Damien Nettles: police search enters second day

Wednesday, November 2, 2011 - 9:38

THE search of a property in Marsh Road, Gurnard, has gone into a second day.
Police investigating the suspected murder of missing teenager Damien Nettles sealed off the property yesterday (Tuesday) for examination by specialist officers, staff and equipment from Hampshire Constabulary's dog support unit, scientific services department and Island support unit.
They started their search again this morning (Wednesday) at 8am. Yesterday, officers conducted a fingertip search of the chalet, floorboards had been taken up and the ground underneath scoured. They had also started excavating the garden.
Two people were arrested yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder — a 35-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, both from Cowes — and they were kept in custody overnight.
Five other people were arrested earlier this year on suspicion of murdering the teenager and were bailed to answer further questions on February 1 next year.
Damien, 16, went missing on Saturday, November 2, 1996 after a night out with friends.
Damien's mother, Valerie Nettles, has spoken of the poignancy of the timing of the police's latest move, the 15th anniversary of his disappearance.
