Damien search conditions 'challenging'

Friday, May 13, 2011 - 10:43

POLICE searching for the body of Damien Nettles, believed to have been dumped in marshland after he was murdered, said the conditions are challenging.
Yesterday (Thursday) police began searching an area of land off the Cowes to Newport cycle track, close to the new Vestas research and development centre at Stag Lane.
They are initially searching an area 50m either side of the cycle track bridge, which is expected to take several days.
PC Nick Humphreys, part of the water search and recovery team, said today (Thursday) they were at times having to wade through waist-deep water, mud, clay and silt.
He said there was zero visibility in the water, which was between six and 12 inches deep.
"We are slowly going through, kicking and prodding with poles to strike anything solid," said PC Humphreys.
