A DANCE teacher, who has created a series of dance programmes for children, has been nominated for a top award.

Linda Smith has been nominated for the accolade on www.whatson4littleones.co.uk in the category of Best New Activity for Children.

Linda, who lives in Shanklin, runs Dance With A Difference and has devised a selection of dance programmes specifically designed for mainstream and special needs children, which conform and complement Ofsted, Early Years Foundation and Key Stage 1 requirements.

Linda said: "At the moment I teach two special needs classes and teach in four pre-schools with my Dance With A Difference. I am so grateful to the parents of the children who attend my classes to nominate me for such a great award."

Linda started Dance With A Difference last summer and teaches children twice a week in Godshill and Brading, as well as other venues across the Island.

"I believe any child can dance and express their feelings to music. It's one of the ways they develop coordination, strength and balance and re-enforces the fact the mind and body are not separate.

"If I was lucky enough to receive enough votes and win, it would be like collecting an Oscar," she added.

Voting closes on Thursday and people can vote at www.whatson4littleones.co.uk
