A try in the dying seconds of Saturday's match robbed Sutton of a well-deserved victory against Sudbury.

Sutton and Epsom's problem on Saturday was, as all season, the inability to convert pressure into points.

Before the match the sides were separated by seven places in the league but on the field there was nothing to choose between them as the lead see-sawed backwards and forwards.

Sudbury opened the scoring after ten minutes, mauling the ball up-field well and enabling the scrum-half to go over next to the posts.

Sutton, replied immediately as lock Kerry Hargood smashed his way forward putting scrum half James Daniels under the posts.

With play fluctuating backwards and forwards the first half finished with Sutton 10-14 down.

They started the second half sleepily, hardly touching the ball for a few minutes. The Sudbury rolling maul went into action again taking them to five metres from the Sutton line and captain Jury burst through under the posts. Beanland converted.

O'Brien kicked a penalty shortly after to level the scores but Sudbury scored and converted soon after through another rolling maul.

But Sutton soon gained the upper hand again and Allibone went under the posts after a superb line out catch. O'Brien converted and yet again Sutton were level. With three minutes to go Sutton appeared to have won the match but Sudbury had other ideas and came back at Sutton.

They were awarded a penalty almost in front of the posts and although the kick would have given them the draw the captain bravely decided to go for the try.

Beanland kicked to touch in the corner, Sudbury won the line out, the forwards mauled the ball over the line and touched it down.

As Beanland's kick crossed the posts the referee blew for full time.
