THE opening of the new ToneZone gym at Medina Leisure Centre has been hit by delay.
The Isle of Wight Council said today (Friday) that the gym, activity studio and dry-side changing rooms would open on March 1, six weeks later than planned.
It said the set back was due to additional works as part of the construction of the steel structure which will house the gym.
The existing facilities will remain open during the works.
The leisure centre is undergoing the first of three phases of major refurbishment as part of a multi-million pound investment by the Isle of Wight Council across its leisure facilities.
The authority said the delay, which it described as slight, would have an impact on the project as a whole with phase two, which includes a new bar, cafe and toilet facilities, now due to be completed at the end of April.
The refurbished pool and wet-side changing rooms are scheduled to open on June 7.
Phase three, which includes refurbishing the female dry-side changing rooms and setting up a new meeting and training room, will be finished
on August 23, the council added.
* Medina Leisure Centre will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, plus there are changes to opening times and activities throughout the holiday period. Details of these can be found at www.iwight.com/leisure
