POTENTIAL Paralympic champions have received a boost after social services staff raised more than £1,500.
Disabled equestrians at Arrow Riding Centre in Darenth will benefit after a series of charity events raised the cash to buy a horse.
Entirely self-funding, Arrow, has been caring for the disabled since 1982, specialising in using horses for physiotherapy.
Group organiser Val Blake said: "As we have to raise all the money ourselves, it is great when we get a donation like this.
"The children we look after are from two-and-a-half years upwards and some of our riders have gone on to national and international competitions.
"Referrals come from doctors, social services or schools. We have 140 people riding every week and there's always a long waiting list."
West Kent social services workers did a sponsored slim, a fancy dress, raffles and held a "wear a hat for a horse" day.
Kent County Council's assistant director of social services John Davis said: "We had a lot of fun raising the money but it's for a serious cause. Everyone thought it was an ideal choice because of the service it provides."
Head of contract planning Jan Burnstead handed over a cheque for £1,585 last Friday.
