A superb Jeran Meah goal delivered maximum points to Boreham Wood on Tuesday evening in Essex.

Hosts Billericay made them fight every inch of the way, most notably in a thrilling second half.

Before the match kicked off, a minute's silence was observed, in light of the horrific events that took place in the United States earlier that day.

When the game started, Billericay demonstrated neat passing, coupled with excellent teamwork.

However, Wood found gaps in their play, and exploited this by pushing forward, to worry Billericay's rearguard.

Wood gradually found their stride, and dominated the opening period, frequently unnerving Town's keeper, King.

Against the run of play, Billericay clustered around Wood's goal, and came frighteningly close to netting.

Wood scored the game's solitary goal in the 32nd minute, through Jeran Meah.

After latching onto a powerful throw from Lee Harvey, Meah skilfully turned, and slotted the ball past Town's keeper.

Meah's strike drew praise from Wood boss Jimmy Gilligan, who said: "It was an excellent goal. He turned in the box and rifled it home. Jeran's a powerful player, but he's a worker.

"I've told him he's just got to believe in himself."

Moments after Meah's goal, Wood came tantalisingly close to making it 2-0, but threaded the ball through the ranks, and lost momentum before making their strike.

The second half was played at a frenetic pace, and Wood's Carl Drew got things underway, when he shot over from the near corner.

Not to be outdone, Town's Joe Baker rocketed a free kick at Wood's goal, and brought about a hastily-executed save by Chris Taylor. The threat of a Billericay equaliser hung heavy in the evening air, especially when Baker came to the fore again.

This time his free kick was thumped skyward, much to the frustration of the home crowd.

Led by Baker, Billericay laid siege to Wood's goal, and made Chris Taylor earn his keep, as he defended countless shots fired in his direction.

Taylor weathered the storm, and his efforts killed off Billericay.

After the game, Jimmy Gilligan said he was pleased with his charges' first half display.

In terms of the second half, he said: "Billericay had a right go at us, but we coped with it."

He added that his side was capable of beating any team in the Ryman Premier Division, if it showed consistency.

WOOD: Taylor, Polston, Engwell (McDonald), Wotton, Harvey, Gallagher, Meah, Mason, Lawford (Dixon), Drew, Jones (Capone).
