Norman and Eve Bell are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today.
A COUPLE who are lifelong Tottenham Hotspur supporters celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary today (Thursday).
Norman and Eve Bell grew up in Edmonton, North London, and first met at their local swimming baths.
Eve, 84, said: "I attended Brettenham Senior Girls school and Norman was nearby, at Latymer.
"We used to go to the swimming baths quite regularly and we just got chatting one day and it went from there."
The couple, who live in Niton Road, Rookley, first visited the Island in 1949 and didn't want to leave.
The following year they got married at All Saints' Church, Edmonton, and spent their two-week honeymoon on the Island in Seaview.
"We loved the Island from the first time we visited. That's why we decided to spend our honeymoon down here," said Eve.
They visited every year for a holiday after they got married in 1950 and retired to the Island in 1984.
Norman, 83, was a member of the British Pacific Fleet in the Royal Navy and worked on landing aircraft, frigates and destroyers, before joining the Metropolitan Police.
He spent 34 years in the force working in London's West End, before spending 12 years on Bow Street at the magistrates' court.
Eve worked in the West End as a school secretary for 21 years.
After the couple retired to the Island, they took a keen interest in gardening and Norman also enjoyed fishing.
The couple have followed Tottenham Hotspur since they were children.
"For our 50th wedding anniversary, we got a guided tour of White Hart Lane and got to meet all the Tottenham players and have our photos taken. It was a wonderful day." added Eve.
They are members of the association of retired police officers and keep in contact with other retired officers.
The couple have two daughters, Glenda and and Coral and four grandchildren, Gary, Paul, Katie and Lindsey. They also have one great grandchild, Cian.
