Discussion group formed by MP

INSPIRED by exchanges on social network site Twitter, Isle of Wight MP Andrew Turner has set up a new discussion group where people will be able to talk about issues face-to-face.

The first of the sessions, which will be informal and last for a maximum of 90 minutes, is to be held at the Riverside Centre restaurant on Thursday, next week, at 6pm.

Mr Turner said: "During a series of exchanges on Twitter it became clear that a number of people are keen to talk about current affairs and issues, but find the limit of 140 characters limiting.

"I thought it would be interesting to organise a meeting so that people can exchange views face-to-face and take part in discussions about matters of local and national interest.

"It will also be useful to me, in my role as the Island’s MP, to hear the views and ideas of Islanders, and for them to be able to ask me questions about my own opinions.

"People with any political views, and indeed none, are welcome to attend, but in order for everybody present to be able to contribute, places will be limited. Priority will be given to those who let my office know in advance that they wish to attend. The subject of the first meeting will be about employment as so many Islanders have already contacted me on the issue."

You can guarantee a place at the meeting by phoning Andrew Turner’s office on 01983 530808 or by emailing mail@islandmp.org

If this new initiative is a success further meetings will be arranged with future subjects chosen by those attending and the format may change based on experience and the views of participants.

I actually think this is a brilliant idea and hope people will go to the meeting/s.I don't always think it is necessary to put comments on here - so it isn't an indicator of what people think. Some comments on some of the articles are nothing to do with the topic and often detract from the content.
