DRIVERS on the Isle of Wight are being warned to take extra care today (Sunday, December 29) due to icy conditions on the Island's roads.

Firefighters were called to Brading Road, Ryde at around 8.30am when a car overturned after skidding on ice.
The motorist was helped from the vehicle before being taken to St Mary's Hospital as a precaution.
Earlier, at 6.48am, a car was involved in a minor accident at Wootton outside The Sloop Inn. The driver of the vehicle was not injured but was also taken to St Mary's Hospital for a check up.
Roads contractor, Island Roads, was warning drivers on Twitter today to take extra care in the icy conditions.
The contractor has also deployed gritter lorries to treat a number of roads on the Isle of Wight.

The frosty weather had been predicted for at least 2 days on internet weather sites & had also been mentioned on TV weather reports, so why did Island Roads leave it until past 8am to start gritting? I had, by that time, already come off my motorbike along Fairlee on my way home from work. Nice of them to grit & warn drivers after the event. I am wondering if Island Roads would be willing to pay for chiropractic treatment on my shoulder & to replace the brake lever on my motorbike.
