EAST Cowes has been named the fifth best place to live in England.

A report published by the Daily Mail said people living in the town enjoyed a good work-life balance, had access to good schools and had green spaces to choose from.

Home to Osborne House, the town beat the likes of Eastleigh, in Hampshire, and Dronfield, in north east Derbyshire.

Ahead of East Cowes on the list of most desirable places to live were Bebington, in Wirral, north and north west Norwich, Broadstone, in Bournemouth, and Sale, in Greater Manchester.

The Centre for Economic and Business Research and Royal Mail put the report together after collecting and analysing data over the last two years.

In December, Cllr Karl Love explored the possibility of petitioning for the town to become Royal East Cowes.
