Ecoisland leader wins national green award

David Green with Caroline Lucas, Green Party MP.

THE pioneering work of the Ecoisland project came under the spotlight after its founder David Green won a top business accolade.

Mr Green, the chief executive officer of Ecoisland Partnership Community Interest Company, received the prestigious Sustainability Executive of the Year award at the 2012 Business Green Leaders Awards ceremony in London on Wednesday evening.

The awards celebrate the pioneering work of leading green businesses and individuals from across the UK.

The prize follows Ecoisland’s receipt of a Climate Week award for being the best community initiative in the country earlier this year.

Mr Green said: "Ecoisland represents a community taking its destiny into its own hands.

"As a very small team, we couldn’t have got to where we are today without the partnership approach, the support of local people and businesses and the on-going commitment of our national and global partners.

"This is sustainability in motion and I’m delighted to accept the award on behalf of Ecoisland."
