Elderly woman injured in scooter incident

AN 80-year-old woman suffered a broken arm after she was knocked over by a mobility scooter on Saturday.

Police are trying to track down the driver of the scooter, which knocked the woman over in High Street, Newport, near the Monsoon shop, at about 11.20am.

The scooter driver drove off towards Boots, police said.

A member of the public came to the woman's aid and with a friend they helped the woman up, said police.

PC Martin Egerton from Newport police station said: "We are trying to establish the details of the incident and would like to speak to the man who was on the mobility scooter as well as the member of the public that assisted the woman following the collision."

Police have appealed for witnesses and described the scooter driver as very pale, aged in his 70s, grey hair, slim and wearing a dark hat and black jacket.
